The motorcycle sector or 2-wheel sector is currently undergoing some interesting changes. With those changes comes a stream of new trends and innovations, such as motorcycle hud, that a smart entrepreneur who loves motorcycles and the engine can take advantage of.
What will riding a motorcycle be like in 15 years?
Although there is no certainty that all the predictions will be fulfilled, let us visualize the possible future motorcycle:
- The rise of the electric motorcycle
Electrification is the way to reach a more ecological and emission-free mobility.
The electric motors of 2030 will obtain better performance, a lot of autonomy and a much lower weight. In addition, they will overcome the problem of sound and you can load the audio file you prefer so that your motorcycle sounds more “racing” or quieter. The reason is that for vehicles it’s required to emit a sound level to avoid accidents and run-ins.
Strong brands already have among their row options. For example, BMW bets on a scooter with its C Evolution, Harley Davidson has presented its 100% electric motorcycle, the LiveWire has stopped vibrating, sounding and polluting. Honda and Yamaha have electric mopeds in their ranks.
In short, step by step everyone is betting on the development of electric vehicles.
- Autonomous riding
The “autopilots” can be activated and deactivated as you wish, due to complaints from other vehicles (not their riders, but directly from the vehicles through integrated standard and mandatory technology) and it will reduce freedom provided by the experience of riding a motorcycle.
This loss of freedom will make aesthetics and design a fundamental part of the motorcycle experience. In 2030, it will be common to see old and classic motorcycles updated with electric motors, but aesthetically they are totally retro, recalling models of bygone times.
Ancient Honda CBR900RR and Yamahas R1 will continue to be used, mechanically updated, for the enjoyment of their owners and will adopt a racing aesthetic typical of the beginning of the century.
- Growth in motorcycle accessories
Concepts such as connected cars or the internet of things are changing the motorcycle sector and the relationship of users with motorcycles. This trend will not stop increasing among the new models.
The use of devices or “gadgets” and technologies typical of motorcycles will yield all kinds of data on the current state and behaviors of the driver.
- Increased security
At this point, the idea may seem more like an exercise in imagination than a real project, but it is not the only one. On the occasion of its centenary, BMW presented in 2016 the Motorrad Vision Next 100, indeed a true design game.
The motorcycle of the German brand, with enormous wheels, has a self-balancing system that prevents the rider from falling, while adding a smart suit that, among other details, modifies the temperature or vibrates to warn of navigation data or danger.
In addition, a system called FlexFrame will allow the frame to be folded to facilitate turns.
Honda driving assistance
The motorcycle remains upright even when stopped: the chances of an accident are reduced to a minimum. The question remains as to what will happen to the rider’s sensations on the road.
The non-intrusive airbag system will be mandatory on all garments. These, in addition, developed with new compounds, will banish leather and bring a new generation of intelligent anti-stain fabrics, with greater resistance than carbon-kevlar, much more comfortable and lighter in weight.
